The Taco Shop Poets and Poesia Para la Gente
June 14, 2012 by J. Huskey
Avenue 50 Studio’s “Poesia Para Le Gente” was presented through “The Taco Shop Poets” at Taqueria My Taco on 6300 York Boulevard on May 26th, 2012. “Poesia Para la Gente” is a program under the Avenue 50 Studio’s monthly La Palabra Poetry, and is brought to you by a grant from The James Irvine Foundation.
Here is a short sample of the energy and poets in the room.
Partial Event recording.
The San Diego based “Taco Shop Poets” are a diverse group of Latinos which include: Tomás Riley, Aldofo Guzmán López and Adrián Arancibia. Although the poets came from all over California and parts of the U.S., their unique experiences came together in the packed Taqueria My Taco in Highland Park. They have received much well deserved attention for their work including a KCET feature on their Departures online program. Despite the passion and talent in the room, I only wished that more young people were present. We the youth need to be part of this community of recognized Latino Poets to create a larger sustainable base.
While this is not an Atelier Visit interview, I felt it was important to share it.
